                      SOFT DENTURES

Ever wondered!! Why Your denture feels loose and sharp over the years whenever you wear them??
Or do you feel the need for a better and more comfortable denture??

Well, the answer is here - SOFT DENTURES!!!!!

As age advances there is a gradual shrinkage of gum tissues which leads to poor fit causing ulcer gum sores, rocking of dentures, falling off of the denture while talking, speech alteration, infection and other problems. Solution: Soft Dentures.

The process by which a soft denture is delivered is called as a Permanent soft relining.

A reline involves resurfacing only the internal surface of the denture to re adapt with a processed soft liner.

It is recommended that dentures should be relined in every two years due to tissue and bite change.

Problems Commonly Caused by ill fitting Dentures:
When poorly fitting dentures are worn for extended periods of time, they can result in problems beyond mere aesthetics and convenience. Common effects from their continued use include:
Poor diet: When dentures are loose or painful, some foodstuff may become difficult to eat. Consequently, it is harder for people to eat the food they enjoy.

Swollen gumsWhen dentures do not fit the contours of your mouth, they are likely rubbing against gum tissue in an unnatural way. As a result, gums can become swollen from irritation.
SorenessWhen gum tissue is irritated and especially when inflamed, it can experience increased sensitivity and soreness.

Blisters: Because poorly fitting dentures tend to rub against specific areas of the mouth, blisters may form to protect affected tissue. In turn, blisters and mouth sores increase discomfort and risk further complications when damaged.

Angular cheilitis: When teeth do not properly align, patients are more likely to have an impeded bite. This may cause saliva to pool near the corners of the mouth, resulting in a small fungal infection that causes inflammation.

Recurrent sores

  Taking Care of Dentures:

·   Clean and brush dentures every day. Plaque and tartar  can still build up just like on natural teeth.
·   Use toothpaste and toothbrush specially designed for  dentures. Regular toothpaste and brushes are abrasive  enough to scratch the surface of dentures.
·   Soak dentures at night. Dentures may lose their shape if  they are allowed to dry out. Remove the dentures, clean  them and soak them in denture cleanser overnight.
·   Visit your dentist for regular hygiene checkups. Even  people who have no natural teeth and wear full dentures  should have their mouth examined annually for signs of  gum disease and oral cancer, and also for proper denture  fit.
·  Store dentures in a safe place. Dentures are delicate and may break if dropped even a few inches. When not wearing dentures, store them away from children and pets.

   NOTE:
 * Replace your denture on an average after every five years.
*Ill fitting dentures if not corrected within a short span of time will lead
to recurrent sores which are associated with oral cancer.

                    WHAT WOULD YOU PREFER??

            ONLAYS

           CROWNS
1. Onlays are porcelain restorations that can replace existing old fillings, broken metal fillings, cuspal replacement etc.
A dental crown is a tooth shaped cap that is placed over tooth to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.
2. Lesser amount of healthy tooth structure to be shaved.
Amount of healthy tooth structured to be shaved is more.
3.  90% times proves to be a better alternative than crown.
Now a days, with increase in awareness, people opt for more tooth conservative procedure which is onlay over crown.
4. Used in cases of cuspal replacements because of superior fit, strength durability, easy tooth cleaning, tooth color.
Used when there is gross amount of tooth structure loss and heavy grinding. It is used since it resembles natural tooth morphology.
5. The chair side working time for onlay is less.
The chair side working time for crown is comparatively more as compared to onlay.
6.  It is a less traumatizing procedure than crowns.
Comparatively more traumatizing procedure because while tooth cutting for the crown, one has to be more extensive which might to a small extent injure gums and adjacent tooth and surrounding structures.
