                                       Early Childhood Dental Care
There are two set of teeth that evolves during a person’s entire life span.  Caring for the baby tooth is a resounding yes. They help in aiding a child’s development. Early childhood decay is usually caused when babies are put to sleep with a bottle of milk containing sugar (natural sugar) also. Breast feeding/nursing also causes decay because it contains sugar and babies are nursed to sleep with the ignorance of cleaning the mouth.

PREVENTION TIPS:
 1. Even before the teeth are erupted; clean/wipe gums and cheeks       with a moistened cloth or dental wipe such as tooth tissue.

 2. HELP THE LITTLE HELPERS- since lot of kids insist on brushing teeth on their own, let them .Use a second brush to clean it thoroughly. Usually parents are recommended to supervise child’s brushing until the age of 6 to 7.

3.Never dip a pacifier in anything sweet.

4.Wean the infant from the bottle by one year of age.

  5. FLUORIDE APPLICATION- Application of fluoride varnish twice a year from the age of 2 years can help in curbing DECAY.

6.Visit your dentist by baby’s first birthday at

                  DENTAL EMERGENCIES IN CHILDREN!!
CARE FOR ONE’S BABY TEETH STARTS RIGHT AWAY FROM THE AGE OF SIX MONTHS WHEN THE FIRST TOOTH ERUPTS IN THE ORAL CAVITY TILL THE SHREDDING OF YOUR MILK TEETH.

ACCIDENTAL FALL OF THE MILK TEETHTo care for your baby teeth is a resounding yes!!While playing, an accidental fall might occur resulting in complete fall of the tooth from the socket. Instead of panicking, look out for the broken piece and if it’s in a clean condition try to redirect it back in the socket and bite on the gauze or a clean piece of cloth. If one is unable to fix it by himself, make sure the tooth is taken to the dentist in a container containing small amount of milk/saline/water and lastly if nothing above all is feasible, keep it under your tongue. By doing this it prevents the integrity of the tooth and ligaments around.

FRACTURED TEETH-If a part of tooth is chipped or fractured due to an accidental fall, try to relocate the broken piece and immediately take it to a dentist who’ll try to seal the   broken piece of tooth back in the position using bonding agents. If not found still visit a dentist who will seal the enamel and thus prevent the further entry of bacteria.

CHEEK/LIP BITINGIf there is constant irritation or interference of lip or cheek while talking or chewing food, it can result into some amount of redness and rash on the inner surface. Prolonged negligence can result into swelling or infection. Immediate attention with prompt application of ice or consumption of a Popsicle can help in relieving the same if noticed early.

DENTAL PAIN- Whenever your child complains of severe toothache, rinse his mouth with warm water and inspect his/her teeth if nothing is stuck between them. If pain continues, use a cold compress to ease/relief the pain. Do not apply any kind of heat or topical pain reliever directly to the affected area which can cause damage to the gums.

       EWW!! BAD BREATH
DO YOU SUFFER FROM BAD BREATH???

Bad breath also called as halitosis is an unpleasant odor originating from the mouth
More than 80 million people suffer from bad breath. In most cases it originates from the gums and tongue.
The odor is caused by wastes from bacteria in the mouth, the decay of food particles, other debris in your mouth and poor oral hygiene.
The decay and debris produce a sulfur compound that causes the unpleasant odor

  CAUSES FOR BAD BREATH
1. Poor dental hygiene- infrequent or improper
 brushing and flossing
2. Volatile foodstuff - onion, garlic etc.
3. Alcohol
4. Systemic illnesses.
5.  Oral infection
6. Fasting
7. Stress/anxiety
8. Smoking – Smoking is the second most common cause  of bad breath.
9. Medication – often medications can
cause xerostomia (dry mouth) causing bad breath.

 TreatingAnd Preventing Bad Breath:
Practice good oral hygiene, and flossing your teeth at least twice a day.

To alleviate odors, clean your tongue with your toothbrush or a tongue scraper.

Chewing sugar-free gum also may help control odor.

In case of dentures or a removable appliance, such as a retainer or mouth guard, clean the appliance thoroughly before placing it back in your mouth using denture cleansers.

 Use of non-alcoholic mouth rinse.

Keep Teeth Healthy During PregnancyImage result for images of teeth and pregnant women
1. Be aware of pregnancy gingivitis symptoms. Expectant mothers experience hormone changes that can exaggerate the way gum tissue reacts Symptoms include gums that become swollen and bleed easily when brushed.
2. Don’t ignore dry mouth. Dry mouth is a pretty common side effect during pregnancy, but it’s not one to take lightly.                        Good saliva flow helps cleanse your mouth of food particles and bacteria. Stay hydrated & pay close attention to good oral hygiene habits such as brushing with a fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day & flossing regularly
3 Pregnancy “tumors are nothing to worry about.  Good news: Though these sound scary, they’re just benign growths – not actually tumors – that result from swollen gums. Typically, they go away on their own.
4 It s safe to see the dentist when pregnant.
If you are pregnant and haven’t had a cleaning in the past year, it’s recommended you see your dentist during the first trimester for a dental cleaning and guidance on maintaining your oral health during your pregnancy. If dental work is needed, the second trimester is the safest time to get it done

5.X rays should be avoided, but are acceptable, if necessary. Any procedure that can wait until after the baby is born – including X-rays – should. But emergencies happen; and when they do, dentists will take great care to expose moms-to-be to the lowest amount of radiation possible by protecting the woman’s neck and lap with a lead apron

Regular check up at ident clinic will keep your teeth healthy and smiling
