What is the one thing, you hate the most about dentists? Don't say everything!!

If you’re a Dentist Hater, I’m sure you have your reasons, and yet I’ll bet it’s not actually dentists you hate. It’s all the stuff a dentist does that creeps you out –
the drilling,
filling,
billing parts.

Who can blame you for that? A dental chair can combine the sum of all fearswith pain, needles, doctors, confined-spaces, loud noises.

It’s no big surprise so many people hate going to the dentist.
Yet, dentists aren’t such bad people
We’re just the ones doing the work and stuck with the bad-guy label.

What is it about going to the dentist that you hate more than anything else?
Is it---

  • The Needle
  • The Pain
  • The Anxiety
  • The Drill
  • The Invasiveness
  • The Sounds and Smells
  • The Cost
  • The Lectures by your Dentist
  • The Poor Service
  • The Bad Memories

So whats your reason to Hate the Dentist???

Vodka Toothache Remedies!!!

For those who are interested in using vodka toothache remedies, it is important to know how they are supposed to work and also to understand that it is an Unverified Toothache remedy.

When someone says they used vodka toothache remedies, it does not mean they were drinking the vodka! This may work to relieve pain, but it may also cause more pain in the form of a hangover.

It is instead used by applying the vodka to the spot where the toothache is originating from. If the spot is not localized (the pain is radiating all over one side of the mouth), the vodka can be used as a mouthwash.
Obviously, this isn’t a practice anyone should use on a regular basis. But for those with a toothache, it may work well to give some pain relief. If the pain does not subside after trying the vodka toothache remedy it is probably best to try other methods of relief and go ahead to the dentist.

When applied directly, alcohol has the ability to numb your tooth pain.
  • Soak a sterile cotton ball in brandy or vodka and hold it against the pained tooth.

  • You could take a sip of whiskey and hold the liquid in your cheek over the painful area of your mouth.

Ok guys.. don't be soooooo happy.. You still need "THE DENTIST"

Dental Treatment in Pregnancy? Yes/No

  • Pregnancy and dental work questions are common for expecting moms. Preventive dental cleanings and annual exams during pregnancy are not only safe, but are recommended.
  • The rise in hormone levels during pregnancy causes the gums to swell, bleed, and trap food causing increased irritation to your gums.
  • Preventive dental work while pregnant is essential to avoid oral infections such as gum disease, which has been linked to preterm birth.

Myth Dental treatment cannot be done during pregnancy.

Fact Dental treatment can only be done during the second trimester of pregnancy (4-6 months). During the first 3 or last 3 months of pregnancy only emergency dental procedures to provide pain relief can be carried out.

 Things to remember
  • The demands of pregnancy can lead to particular dental problems in some women.
  • Estimates suggest that about 18 out of every 100 premature births may be triggered by periodontal disease, which is a chronic infection of the gums.
  • You are less likely to have dental problems during pregnancy if you already have good oral hygiene habits.

------  So try to make regular and thorough teeth cleaning part of your routine. Ask your dentist or dental hygienist about the best ways to clean your teeth and the best brushes and toothpastes to use.

Think you know how to wash your hands? Think again..

Think you know how to wash your hands?

Think again. A 2013 study showed that only 5 percent of people properly wash their hands on a daily basis. Its time to dispel the five most common handwashing myths.

To clean up handwashing misconceptions,  the following myths have been identified:

 1. It doesn’t matter how long I wash my hands as long as I use soap – False
The next time you’re in the restroom and washing your hands, think of the chorus of your favorite song. Studies show that you should scrub your hands with soap for a minimum of 15-30 seconds in order to effectively remove germs.

2. Hand sanitizers can replace washing your hands with soap and water – False
Washing hands with soap and water is the best and most effective way to reduce the number of microbes and germs on hands. Although alcohol-based (at least 60 percent) hand sanitizers can quickly reduce the number of microbes on hands in some situations, they are not as effective as soap and water when it comes to removing and inactivating dangerous gastrointestinal illness-causing germs such as Cryptosporidium, norovirus and Clostridium difficile.

3. The hotter the water you use for handwashing, the better – False
Studies show that water temperature does not affect microbe removal. In fact, there is no research to prove that higher temperatures improve handwashing at all. Hotter water can also dry out skin, which leaves your skin more susceptible to germs and can make handwashing painful. It is best to wash your hands with the temperature that you find comfortable.

4. You don’t have to dry your hands after washing them – False
Studies show that germs can be more easily transferred to and from wet hands, which is why drying hands is essential to staving off bacteria after handwashing.

5.Hand dryers are more hygienic than paper towels – False
In studies conducted by the Mayo Clinic (Minn.) and University of Westminster (London), researchers found that paper towels are superior to air dryers and can help remove bacteria, unlike air dryers which can increase bacteria counts. Because air dryers have been shown to spread bacteria between three and six feet from the device, paper towels are also far less likely to contaminate other restroom users.

"Many people don’t realize that they are washing their hands incorrectly,  effective infection prevention depends upon proper handwashing, so it’s important to learn and use correct practices.”

Whiskey in Tooth Paste?? YESSS: its TRUE!!!

YESSS: Whiskey Tooth Paste was a thing in 1961

Don Poynter, the newly minted college grad decided to do something about the flavor in tooth paste. With more ambition than credit, Don secured a $10,000 bank loan.

Poytner Products' toothpaste was released in Bourbon and Scotch flavors and actually did contain a small amount of um, er, provisions to ensure an authentic boozy flavor.

Tubes tipped the scale at a respectable 6 proof (com'n, it's toothpaste). Don's whiskey toothpaste struck a cultural nerve and wound up becoming one of the country’s biggest novelty items in the 1950s and 60s.

Pit & Quarry wrote, “Researchers found that those using the whiskey-flavored toothpaste brushed their teeth after each meal, including lunch at work – and as many as 14 other times during the day.”

WHAT DOES PLAQUE AND TARTAR DO TO YOUR TEETH?

Tooth decay and gum disease are caused by plaque, a sticky combination of bacteria and
food. Plaque begins to build up on teeth within 20 minutes after eating. If teeth are not
cleaned well each day, plaque will lead to tooth decay. Over time, plaque will harden into
  tartar.
Plaque and tartar lead to a number of problems:
  • Cavities -- holes that damage the structure of teeth
  • Gingivitis -- swollen, inflamed, bleeding gums
  • Periodontitis -- destruction of the ligaments and bone that support the teeth, often leading to tooth loss
  • Bad breath (halitosis)
  • Abscesses, pain, inability to use teeth
  • A variety of health problems outside the mouth, from preterm labor to heart disease
Healthy teeth are clean and have no cavities. Healthy gums are pink and firm. To maintain
healthy teeth and gums, follow these steps:
  • Brush your teeth at least twice daily, preferably after every meal and at bedtime
  • Floss at least once per day. If you floss only once a day, bedtime is better.
  • See your dentist for a routine cleaning and exam. Many dentists recommend having the teeth professionally cleaned every 6 months
  • Keep dentures, retainers, and other appliances clean. This includes brushing them regularly. You may also need to soak them in a cleansing solution.
  Ask your dentist:
  • What kind of toothbrush you should use, and how to brush your teeth well. Ask if an electric tooth brush is right for you. Electric tooth brushes have been shown to clean teeth better than manual toothbrushes.
  • How to properly floss your teeth. Overly vigorous or improper flossing may injure the gums.
  • Whether you should use any special appliances or tools, such as water irrigation. This may sometimes help supplement (but not replace) brushing and flossing.
  • Whether you could benefit from particular toothpastes or mouth rinses. In some cases, over-the-counter pastes and rinses may be doing you more harm than good, depending on your condition.
Regular teeth cleaning by a dentist removes plaque that may develop, even with careful brushing and flossing. This is very important for getting at areas that are hard to reach on your own. Professional cleaning includes scaling and polishing. This procedure uses instruments to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth. Routine exams may include dental X-rays.
